When Non-climate Urban Policies Contribute to Building Urban Resilience to Climate Change: Lessons Learned from Indonesian Cities

Author:

Description:
Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network (ACCCRN)
Focus country:
INDONESIA

Year:
2013

This draws on case studies from six Indonesian cities to highlight how local urban development approaches have contributed to reducing vulnerability to climate change, although these were not designed with climate change adaptation in mind. The case studies, ranging from community, NGO and government-driven initiatives for water access, riverbank resettlement and public information systems, draw out lessons for other cities and provoke reflection about how social development and good governance initiatives can serve as entry points into building climate change resilience.
